Pastor Louis M. Murphy, Sr.

Vice Chair, Pinellas County

Rev. Louis M. Murphy has dedicated his pastoral career to kingdom building, inside and outside the walls of Mt Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, where he was installed as Pastor in May 1999
In addition to his leadership of the Mt Zion family, Rev. Murphy’s unwavering focus on effective community change has positioned Mt Zion on the leading edge of economic and spiritual renewal in the City of St. Petersburg’s poorest areas. To further the cause, he Co-founded “The 2020 Plan”, a collective impact initiative designed to reduce the poverty in South St. Petersburg.
Rev. Murphy has served on various boards and his work has been honored with the Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award by the Boy Scouts, NAACP President’s Award, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Citizen of the Year Award, St. Petersburg Bar Association Liberty Bell Award among others. He was awarded the Key to the City of St. Petersburg in celebration of 20 years of dedicated service in this community.
Murphy and his deceased wife, Filomena, have two adult children Chiriga, Louis Jr., and five grandchildren.
